Now A Blast From The Ghost Of Christmas Past…

24

Hey gang.

You know… a few years ago when I had more free time than I do now, I designed  my own personal copywriter’s Holiday card.

A real world copywriting parallel… A tiny bit of humor… some basic Photoshop, and voila!

But since I was still pretty new to this online business world, and not many knew who I was, I ended up sending the card to a total of only 3 people.

It was sorta funny… kinda cute and definitely on point when it comes to copywriting and a marketing mindset, so I thought it would be nice to dig it up and reprint here for you.

Figured we could consider it an open Holiday card to all Clambakers.

Only problem with that… I couldn’t find a copy of it to save my life. It turns out when you’ve been through 3 PCs, 2 laptops and a bunch of external storage options over just a few years time, files have a knack for getting lost.

But… luckily I remembered one of the three people I sent this card to was my then mentor and current pal, David Garfinkel. And since David posted it on his blog, it continues to live on in some obscure, wordpress version of infamy.

So… basically… I’m stealing the card back by linking to it here on the Clambake.

Here’s what you have to do now.

Go and take a look at the card on David’s blog. You can see by clicking here Happy Holidays.

And while you’re there, give David’s blog a read too. A great archive of copywriting/marketing genius, for sure.

But then… come back and use the comments area below to send whatever Holiday wishes you want to send to Clambakers everywhere!

Let’s see how much cheer you guys can give over the next 2 days…

Have a super holiday everyone. Vin, please drink the eggnog responsibly.

Hey up everyone and you especially Vin…

May you all have a truly wonder time with your family and friends over Christmas.

Thank you everything this year, the encouragement, cajoling and every now and again, a swift kick up the backside to get my thinking on track.

All of you are wonderful gifts in your own right.

Enjoy life and especially all that 2011 has to offer.

Merry Christmas One and All and a very, very Happy New Year!

Kindest regards,

Mark

OK, so now Vin is “re-gifting” his stuff from 2007… No, he’s not lazy, just a freakin genius when it comes to time management. LOL

Merry Christmas!!

Great idea to re-gift a card. Especially one that is timeless like this one.

Wonder how well the split test went? Should we try it on the Tooth Fairy too? :)

Merry Christmas and Nappy Yew Hear, everyone!

I guess my best Christmas card for everyone might be an image of what we saw yesterday during our Blizzard and drifting snow:

One bird-feeder.
* Hungry cardinal, bright-red with proud crest lands. But the wind is so strong, his top-knot flattens out sideways like a gawky kid trying to look good for Sunday-school.
* A little goldfinch, intimidated by the larger sparrows and that gigantic cardinal, tries to land on his own perch to grab a bite. The wind switches direction at the last moment and he finds himself flying backwards instead.
* A white-throated sparrow, his striped black-and-white cap gleaming manfully, sits on the edge of the seed-catcher, searching through the snow. He looks up, his beak rimmed in white like he’d poked it through a tiny white doughnut. Then the wind sweeps him flat-out off! He flies back to his place, looking like, “I meant to do that. I DID!”

Lastly, our little rescue puppy, a miniature dachshund named Kitzell, had her first real experience with 5″-deep snow. Her expression said it all: “You want me to WHAT?? Mommy, YOU come out here and wee-wee!”

Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year, too!

Hey Dot, I was just out your way… sort of. Terry, Eli and I spent Christmas in Del. and we went by Tyson’s Corner, where we met up awhile back. I know you moved a tad to the south? I think. Anyway we were supposed to head back home Monday, but we got snowed in at Mom’s in Del. 4″- 6″ of snow isn’t too bad, except when that monster wind is blowing out there and leaves 3′ snow drifts anywhere… like in the middle of the road. We decided to heed the Del. state of emergency and stay put. We probably would have been blown off the bay Bridge had we tried to come back on Monday.

I love your Christmas card.

Trease @ 12:43 am #

Okay here goes mine. Christmas with Mom and some favorite family members in Del. This year Mom’s tree is done in red and purple… Red Hat Society style. But first we go to the little country church Christmas Eve for a special program of singing and Christmas preaching.

There’s the last minute shopping at the base, Target and the mall in Dover… and 45 minutes stuck in the right lane, a trip that normally takes 5- 10 minutes.

Christmas tree side chats, reminiscing over old times and enjoying the moments that make for new times. Sneaking sugar cookies and the chocolate and green Spritz cookies look yummy too. Or cooking in the kitchen with one brother, sis in-law, my son and my mom… anything from Green Chile and Ranch style bean enchiladas to turkey, or trying to figure out how to fix the aluminum foil over the ham and which side to place the ham in the pan for baking.

It’s not just family… it’s an unfolding adventure and saga… another moment in the Brothers family… moments of good food, good conversation and hanging out with loved ones you don’t always get to see.

Merry Christmas from Mom’s house to yours. The cardinals and the sparrows braved the cold, flurries and Fluffy, the cat in her attempt to sneak up on them unawares. Fluffy, a giveaway stray Mom befriended… the little cat who looks like a mini version of Grandmother Cat… the barnyard cat who was my Mom-Mom’s before I could remember and disappeared in her old age… a gray and white tabby cat.

This was one of the best Christmases we’ve had, and Christmas is always good. It also was my first Christmas at the home place without Dad. But I think he was looking down upon us, sharing in our joy on one of his favorite days.

Yes, Christmastime in the country, a most special time of the year.

Oh boy – a DATE! With the man of my dreams!
(Okay, just don’t tell hubs, lol)

Hmmm. Let’s talk about Internet Copywriting in general… and maybe you could talk about my website in particular?

My biggest challenge is using stories and imagery in copywriting – without either totally dominating and running away with the whole show. They’re such wonderfully powerful techniques!

Then, if time remains, maybe we could talk about getting clients that pay a reasonably decent amount of money (at least 4 figures!)… and who actually DO understand what a copywriter does!

Need more?

You are the answer to my dreams!

Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

Dot… I wonder if you could do me a favour?

Record the call!

I’d happily send you a gift, well okay a bribe lol to listen into some of Vin’s advice that he gives you on some of those questions.

Keep me posted lass.

Kindest regards,

Mark

Vin, I hear ya about letting loved ones go after all is said and done. I feel the same way about Dad.

I can’t wait to hear the answers to Dot’s questions. Vin, I vote for Dot. I didn’t realize we were the ones voting. I really think you’re gonna need all the 20 minutes to answer her questions.

Dot is so giving… we’ve actually met and she loaded me up with copywriting goodies plus really great conversation.

Hooray! Thank you, Trease!

Yes, you are every single bit as giving as anyone could wish. And you, too, are a wonderful person to talk to. I really liked our visit – and meeting your dh and his pipe-shopping spree.

Thank you again!
